Masters of the Hunt

The Masters of the Hunt are a loosely organized group, who value strength and cunning. They believe that natural order means that the strong will always triumph over the weak, and that a creature’s value comes from its ability to kill, and to not be killed.

To their initiates, many of the Masters divulge lessons and secrets to aid in the training of their apprentices. These Masters who take apprentices are generally those who believe that a pack is stronger than a lone wolf, and so they train their packs to be cohesive and vicious. To these packlords, being part of the Masters furthers their recruitment of the most promising young additions to their groups. Other Masters believe that, either through stealth or speed or selfishness, they are better served by hunting alone. These Masters often join the group only to claim their territory, as the group, by and large, respects the territorial claims of its members.

The Primate is the leader of the Masters of the Hunt. He or she has absolute authority over all members of the Masters, although the extent to which this authority is exercised varies widely between primates. The post of Primate is a lifelong position. If a member wishes to become Primate, they have the right to publicly issue a Dare at the monthly gathering. On the second midnight after issuing a Dare, the challenger may track down and try to kill the current primate. If they successfully complete the Dare by killing the incumbent primate, they are rewarded by taking his place as the head of the Masters of the Hunt.
